Opener 'LP001A1' is a looping funk jam with a rousing Ohio Players-esque chorus, 'LP001A2' is a midtempo, shuffling affair, 'LP001B1' is a lively workout with even more of a jazz bent, while 'LP001B2' blends jazz, house, funk and lounge into one glorious, shimmying concoction. 'LP001C1' is a pacier cut for the soulful house floors that bites Julie McKnight's vocal from 'Diamond Life', 'LP001D1' is a fine slice of contemporary boogie, and so it goes on.
Following impressive outings on Gruuv and Knee Deep in Sound, Leeds-based tech-house stalwarts Audiojack return to Crosstown Rebels for the first time since 2017. It's the long-serving production partnership's first release of the year and contains two typically on-point cuts.

Lo-fi synth maestro Ruf Dug has cordially invited us to take a short stay on 'Ruffy's Island', a lesser-known tropical paradise nestled somewhere between Manchester and Madagascar. To get a better view, he first invites us to dance along aboard his 'Boat Party', where cheery lead lines skip around a crackling analogue groove.
Next up is guided tour of the island's 'Techno Cave', a dark place where you're encouraged to dance shirtless to the accompaniment of tribal drum samples, foreboding riffs and mind-altering electronics. Lurking towards the back is Sharif Laffrey, who guides us through ten minutes of stomping beats, weirdo riffs and glassy-eyed jacking intensity. The highlight of the trip, though, may well be 'Abandoned Pyramid', a dubbed-out chunk of tropical synthesizer madness constructed in cahoots with Contours. Since ditching his juke-focused 'Murderbot' project a few years back, Chris 'Chrissy' Shively has found success as a producer of giddy, good-time dance music shot through with references to all manner of classic UK and U.S styles and sub-genres. 'Resilience', his first full-length as Chrissy, continues on this theme, delivering a whirlwind trip through three decades of sweaty, party-starting UK and U.S dance music.
Shively begins with the smile-inducing rave revivalism of 'Like A Fantasy' and the 'Sweet Harmony'-esque 'Do What You Feel', before in sequence turning his hand to 1980s piano house ('Your Ghost'), heavy London hardcore ('We Need Love'), acid-fired ghetto-house ('U Can't Stop'), Kariya (the 'I Want You Tonight' style brilliance of 'So I Go Dancing') and early jungle/drum and bass ('Call On Me'). Four tracks here that will appeal to the more adventurous deep house jocks as well as fans of more experimental sounds. The title cut is a breakbeat-led affair topped with lingering synth chords and augmented by a little 303 bass squelch, while 'Maybe It Won't Be' rides a stuttering bruk rhythm with more of those languid chords and what sounds like a Theremin. The EP's first straight-up 4/4s can be found on the faster-paced 'Doozy Of A Day', which sits somewhere between Heard/Damier-style US deepness and Detroit techno, and as such is probably the go-to for deep house floors, while more stuttering beats, warm chords and Spanish guitar frills make up closer 'Crepuscular'.
